The Friday blog series, "Welcome to Our Town", introduces you to different towns/areas in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia. When contemplating purchasing a new home, it's always good to do your research on the area. We hope this blog helps you to choose your forever home in a fun and exciting town that you love...and when you find it, give us a call to discuss your financing options.
Welcome to Crownsville, located 7 miles northwest of Annapolis, the state capital. This town hosts the Anne Arundel County Fair each September, as well as the annual Maryland Renaissance Festival for several summer weekends. This area offers waterfront scenery and easy access to urban metropolitan areas and culture.
Crownsville is historically known for its former hospital for the mentally insane, which was enabled by an act of the Maryland General Assembly in 1910. The act also stated that the hospital should not be in Baltimore (heavily populated), but in a more rural area. Land in Crownsville, formerly farmed for willow and tobacco, was selected as the location for the hospital. Here you will find just a few of our favorite places, spaces, and happenings!
