Welcome to Chesapeake City, MD; a quaint town located on the C&D Canal, connecting the Chesapeake Bay and the Delaware River. When the canal was completed in 1829, there were two structures reported to have been standing, Chick's Tavern House and a lock house for collecting tolls. Originally known as Bohemia Village this town changed it's name to Chesapeake City in 1839, and began to grow in response to the needs of the canal operations and commerce. By 1949 the population reached 400. Today, you will find many of the historic homes in this town have been renovated to preserve their historic charm. Check out this beautiful town today, and enjoy the unique waterfront restaurants, eclectic shops and boat cruises/ferry rides along the C&D canal. Here you will find just a few of our favorite places and spaces.
